Ciarán joined the firm in April 2023 as a partner in the litigation and disputes resolution team following the merger of Reddy Charlton and Simon McAleese Solicitors LLP.

Ciarán has particular expertise in all aspects of media law including defamation, privacy, contempt of court, intellectual property, and data protection. He provides production and pre/ post publication advice to a host of newspaper titles, independent production companies, podcasts and international television networks.

Ciarán also represents clients involved in broader civil litigation including commercial, property, and employment disputes as well as professional negligence and probate litigation.

Some of Ciarán’s recent work highlights include:
  • Advising the GAA on the landmark agreement with the National Football League (“NFL”) to host the regular season Pittsburgh Steelers v Minnesota Vikings game at Croke Park;
  • Rendering production legal services on the hit show “The Traitors Ireland” hosted by Siobhán McSweeney where the faithful audience generated unprecedented viewing figures for an unscripted entertainment on domestic linear television;
  • Acting for the Irish co-producer on a range of US television series recorded in Ireland for the Fox network including “Beat Shazam” hosted by Jamie Foxx/Nick Cannon, “Name That Tume” hosted by Jane Krakowski and Randy Jackson, and “Next Level Chef” hosted by Gordon Ramsay.
  • Providing pre-publication advice and litigation services to News Group UK & Ireland’s operations including The Irish Sun, The Sunday Times Ireland, and Wireless Ireland (owners of radio stations including FM104, Dublin’s Q102, LMFM, Cork’s 96FM, and Live 95);
  • Plaintiff litigation on a variety of significant personal injury, probate, and medical negligence claims. Representing a property investment company in the arbitration of a professional negligence claim against a leading estate agency;
  • Legal guidance on the BAFTA and Royal Television Society award-winning documentary “The Missing Children” examining the story of the infamous Mother & Baby Home in Tuam, Co. Galway;
  • Advising the Irish producer on the production and financing arrangements for “LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland” hosted by Graham Norton for worldwide broadcast on Amazon Prime; and
  • Production lawyer for many of Ireland’s most popular television series including “Ireland’s Fittest Family”, “Cheap Irish Homes”, “Googlebox Ireland”, “Keys to my Life”, “Dinner With The Enemy”, “Great House Revival”, “Salvage Squad”, “The Shelter: Animal SOS”, “Marú inár Measc” and “Misneach”.
