Irish solicitor elected president of European lawyers

James MacGuill, a distinguished Irish solicitor, has been elected as the President of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE).  The CCBE represents the bars and law societies of 45 countries and through them more than 1,000,000 European lawyers.

James practices mainly in the area of criminal law.  In the more than 50 years since the foundation of CCBE there has only been one other president from Ireland.  We congratulate James and wish him well on his year of presidency.

Paul Keane is the representative of the Law Society on the Private Law Committee of the CCBE which deals with contract, consumer and commercial law issues.
