An update on the Reddy Charlton bees
The season has been tough. Very warm and dry in spring and very wet during the critical period of late spring and early July. Very challenging times for our bees and for the plants upon which they rely!
Some hives are running low on food because of the bad weather, so we have to feed them with a syrup of sugar and water to keep them going until they can bring in enough honey from ivy for the winter. Have a look.
The yield has been lower than in other years. It is still a big job to take away the frames, to extract and filter the precious honey and then to jar and label it. In this link you’ll see the Keane family at work!
